Press Release: decent takes Europe!
decent packaging are excited to announce the launch into the Europe market on the 30th of March 2023, anchored around the Amsterdam Coffee Festival providing opportune time to make connections and celebrate with the local community they’ll be serving.
Over the last decade the company has notably achieved Carbon Zero Certification through Toitū Envirocare, by offsetting 1,410 tonnes of CO2 to date. They have partnered with the London Coffee Festival to create a zero-waste event for the last 3-years running and worked with Auckland's Spark Arena to create New Zealand’s first zero-waste stadium.
London-based decent packaging CEO, Sam Chote comments, “We’ve had an amazing opportunity to continue to simplify sustainability for our customers across Europe. The timing couldn’t be better than being able to use the launchpad that is Amsterdam Coffee Festival and be a key sponsor for this event. The team and I are buzzing to get to know the local community here as well as in Paris at the coffee festival on the 13th May and then Milan on the 2nd of December.”
“Like any new territory, you never know how it’s going to go until you swing the digital doors open and start trading but we feel confident in the way that we have launched the brand in Europe. It’s a key milestone for the global journey of decent packaging. We’re now focused on simplifying sustainability for our new Europe customers.“
Founded in New Zealand in 2012 by Tony Small, the compostable packaging supplier, has grown from a garage start-up to a global company with offices in Auckland, Christchurch & London, and now across Europe.
decent packaging manages supply and logistics for schools, stadiums, events, cafés, gyms, and restaurants, and offers an extensive product range including containers, cutlery, bags, napkins, straws, and carriers. All decent packaging products are made from, and printed with, sustainably grown non-toxic plant-based materials. Every product can be home or commercially composted, in just 12-weeks.
Conditions look positive to support their ambitious growth targets, as consumer demand and government legislation push for better alternatives to fossil fuel production, and traditional waste-management solutions.
In Europe, the most recent packaging legislation came into effect on 04 February 2022, targeting the ten most commonly found single-use plastic items on European beaches, alongside fishing gear, representing 70% of all marine litter in the EU. This new legislation aims to combat marine litter and plastic pollution by reducing and banning the sale of certain plastic and polystyrene packaging options. This follows trends towards greener infrastructure in select councils, and the private sector and showing a continued commitment toward more sustainable operations.
Looking further afield, Zion Market Research estimates the bioplastics market will surge from $10.5 billion in 2021 to some $29 billion in 2028(1). That kind of growth will likely mean more innovation over the next 4 to 5 years, as new bioplastics enter the market making packaging more sustainable, and offering solutions for other industries to reduce plastic waste and carbon emissions.
Global CEO: Sam Chote, is available to comment on Europe expansion, growth, trends, and what changing legislation and infrastructure mean for the packaging and hospitality industries.
