The UK recycling infrastructure is fundamentally broken.

A key issue is that even when packaging is technically made from recyclable materials, there's no guarantee it will be accepted for recycling.

Paper cups are a classic example. Although made from paper, they’re not accepted by recycling facilities in the UK, despite what many brands may claim. Under the On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL) assessment system, paper cups currently receive a Red RAM rating. In simple terms, waste facilities aren’t able to quickly process the different linings of anything shaped like a hot cup, so as a precaution, they are rejected straight to landfill.

We refuse to call a paper cup “recyclable” just because it’s made from recyclable materials. If the local system can’t process it, then making that claim feels misleading.

We firmly believe that until recycling infrastructure catches up, compostables are the right solution.

Why composting supports a true circular economy.

We’re all about looking at the full picture and valuing the start of life as much as where it ends up. Right from the start, compostable products have a much lower footprint, whether home or commercially compostable. Using plant-based materials such as sugarcane, bagasse and PLA rely on significantly fewer fossil fuels and oils during production compared to traditional plastic (PE) linings or so-called “recyclable” alternatives. Oil-based plastics start on the back foot: sourcing oil is dangerous, with a long history of spills, toxic refineries, and unethical practices across the fossil fuel industry.

When composted correctly, your decent packaging transforms back into nutrient-rich matter that feeds the soil to grow new plants. It is the ultimate closed loop.

Certified, so you know it’s decent.

Greenwashing is everywhere, which is why we do not expect you to just take our word for it.

Every product we produce undergoes rigorous independent testing to meet recognised composting standards, including EN 13432 and NF T51-800. Whether designed for industrial composting facilities or home compost heaps, our products are certified to break down completely when disposed of correctly.
