a decent conversation with Carb Club
We recently chatted with the lovely Jodie about her journey from a lockdown side-hustle to opening her dream pottery studio/café. It’s a space built on community, creativity, and the belief that everything tastes better when eaten from a hand-painted bowl.
We love the concept of Carb Club! Would you mind sharing how it came to be?
Thanks! It all began with a pasta bowl I painted at a local pottery painting studio, with Carb Club written across the middle. After a bit of persuasion, I started selling my hand-painted pasta bowls during lockdown, and each drop sold out within minutes. Before long, I’d outgrown my dining room table and moved into a tiny studio space. It didn’t take long to outgrow that either, which is when I began running music-themed pottery painting workshops. I’ve recently moved into my own pottery painting café in London Fields, which we fitted out completely from the ground up. It’s been a huge process, but I’m so happy with how it’s turned out.

What's your favourite ceramic to paint?
It's got to be pasta bowls, you can never have enough and I hate eating from a plate! I also love our new butter dishes!
We love that you use decent packaging! Why did you choose us?
I chose you guys as I fell in love with the colours and patterns - I had my heart set on pink cups! The quality is great too which was an added bonus.

Aside from your own spot, where's your go-to place to grab a coffee?
I love Third Culture Deli on Broadway market - another great vegan spot. I also love Running Late as they have a great selection of food and drinks, plus I love their branding!

If you could have coffee with anyone, past or present, who would it be?
Tough question, but I think number one would be my nan, as she lives a few hours away and sadly can't travel down to see the space, so I'd love her to come in and see it in real life!

What are you most looking forward to in 2026? Anything exciting in the pipeline for Carb Club?
I’m so excited to watch Carb Club grow as more people discover it. I can’t wait for it to become a meeting place for friends and family, and, of course, for people to come on their own to paint and enjoy some wholesome ‘me’ time. We’ll also finally be bringing back our much-loved music-themed pottery painting workshops in our private hire space.
