Introducing our latest Compostable Canvas artist, Katie Smith.

Our new Compostable Canvas Hot Cups have been designed by the very talented Katie Smith. Here she shares where she draws her inspiration from, and some of favourite things to do when she's not creating her fabulous work.

We love the designs you have created for our recent Compostable Canvas Cup! What’s inspired your style as an artist?

Lots of things have inspired my style as an artist! I’m really drawn to retro aesthetics — I love anything from the 80s and enjoy combining those nostalgic elements with modern twists. I’ve weirdly fallen in love with stripes, which have become a huge part of my style and help bring a piece to life. I think I’ve found a really fun combo that defines my work — stripy patterns, bold colours (especially warm tones), and fine black lines to tie it all together.

What gets you into your creative flows and where do you draw inspiration from?

I love being in my studio — it’s full of colour and life, so I get a lot of inspiration from simply being there. I also find ideas when I’m out and about — sometimes a random object or place sparks something new. Films are a big source of inspiration too, and I’m a big fan of a good Pinterest scroll for colour palettes and photography references.

When you’re not creating, how do you like to spend your time?

I love going out for food and visiting new cafés, catching up with close friends, and wandering around my local city centre. Music is a big part of my life too — I’m always listening to pop/ R&B or going to concerts.

Since you’ve created these designs for our Hot Cups… what is your hot drink of choice?

It has to be an oat cappuccino — with the chocolate sprinkles, of course!
