a decent conversation with YUK FUN.
Introducing our latest Compostable Canvas designers, Lucy and Patrick of YUK FUN. Known for fun colours and playful critters, read on to find where they source their inspiration and more.

We love the designs you have created for our recent Compostable Canvas Cup! What has inspired your style as artists?
Thank you! Here's some inspiring people and things from the top of our heads: art by Misaki Kawai, illustrations by Richard Scarry, comics like Asterix and Tintin, animations by Sally Cruikshank, old matchbox labels with wonky printing, outsider art, Chinese papercuts, Polish papercuts...

What gets you into your creative flows and where do you draw inspiration from?
Music is very important for getting into the flow state. Our musical tastes overlap with Mac Demarco, NewJeans, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and shows on NTS with a nice variety of stuff. Can't be too hectic for the studio though!
We draw inspiration from nature; we love animals and plants! We also love a funny phrase or just people watching and getting ideas from the weird stuff humans do.
When you’re not creating, how do you like to spend your time?
Things we both like: going for big walks, gardening, playing computer games together and going in the sea.

Since you’ve created these designs for our Hot Cups… what is both of your hot drink of choice?
Patrick: at home I'll have a cup of tea but when I'm at our local café I'll have a Melbourne magic. Not sure what it is but it tastes nice and feels exotic.
Lucy: Hot water. My fellow Chinese people will understand!
How can people purchase your work or get in touch about any collabs?
We have a webshop here: www.yukfun.shop and our portfolio website is here: www.yukfun.co.uk.
