A decent conversation with Fabrica X Coffee Shop.
We caught up with the Fabrica X team to chat about how the coffee shop ties into their mission to build a more conscious community, plus some upcoming events you won’t want to miss and more...
Firstly, would you mind explaining a bit about Fabrica X, how it came to be and what inspired the opening of the Coffee Shop?
Fabrica X is a space dedicated to showcasing the leading sustainable techstyle and agrifood innovations and brands redefining how we create and consume. Through exhibitions, curated retail and great coffee, Fabrica X aims to inspire, educate and empower people to make informed decisions for the betterment of both people and the planet.
In a neighbourhood saturated with chain coffee shops, we were inspired to create a more intentional, independent alternative - a place where thoughtful design meets quality, ethically sourced coffee. More than just a coffee shop, we envisioned a welcoming space that encourages lively conversation, meaningful connection, and creative discovery.
Outside of using decent Hot Cups and Huskee as your sit-ins (great choices, by the way), how does the Coffee Shop reflect the same sustainability values that guide the wider Fabrica X space?
Sustainability and social impact guide every decision we make at the coffee shop. From furniture made with KAVA Surfaces (an innovative material crafted from upcycled coffee grounds) to working with B-Corp certified Ozone for our coffee, everything is chosen with care. We minimise waste where possible and collaborate with people and businesses that share our values. Ultimately, it’s about proving you can enjoy a great coffee while doing good for people and the planet.
As the space has only been open for a couple months now, how do you see it growing or evolving as part of your mission to educate and empower conscious consumers?
The coffee shop is a welcoming entry point into the wider conversations we’re having at Fabrica X and a place where curiosity is sparked. You could pop in for a flat white and leave having discovered cutting-edge innovations in techstyle and agrifood, along with practical ideas for how you can make a difference today.
At its core, it’s about open dialogue, community, and empowering people to shape a more sustainable future. As we grow, we see it becoming a regular gathering spot for the wider King’s Cross community as a vibrant hub for exhibitions, retail, workshops, events, and meaningful conversation.
You host some pretty epic events and takeovers at Fabrica X and more recently at the Coffee Shop specifically, can you explain the process of bringing these to life?
We aim to support and spotlight companies doing innovative, meaningful work that often is not seen by wider audiences. Whether it’s an exhibition or a coffee shop takeover, our process begins with research and curiosity - identifying timely topics and changemakers pushing boundaries. From there, we focus on telling their stories in ways that are accessible, engaging, and thought-provoking. It’s about creating space for fresh ideas, amplifying diverse voices, and connecting our community to the people and innovations driving positive change.
If you could have a coffee with anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?
Past: Billy Connolly, he’s an amazing storyteller and entertainer. Coffee is all about bringing people together over great conversation, and I imagine sharing a cup with him would be both hilarious and deeply memorable. Also we both have a shared love of travel and swapping tales of travels would be great!
Present: Rubens Gardelli, the exceptional roaster and brewer (World Roasting Champion 2017, 2nd place World Brewers Cup 2014). He’s passionate, makes incredible coffees, and seems like a genuinely friendly person. I’d love to geek out over coffee with him.
Do you have any upcoming events or takeovers that we should keep an eye out for?
We have the Fabula exhibition (@fabula120) 14th - 27th August, which is a celebration of circularity and responsible fashion stories - capturing notable figures from the worlds of media, fashion, politics and the arts in their favourite sustainable fashion finds. (grab tickets here)
We’ve also got 10am Club (@10.am.club) coming up on the 30th August, and it’s set to be a lot of fun. They’re a German collective known for hosting daytime dance parties in cafés - think four DJs over four hours, great coffee, and a few carefully curated adult beverages. It promises to be a high-energy day, and we’re really looking forward to it!
As is probably quite clear from just the events above, there are many exciting projects brewing, and even more that we’ll be announcing soon, so be sure to follow us on Instagram @fabricax_london to stay in the loop.
