Q: What packaging is compostable?
A: All decent packaging is approved for composting by independent certification. The three most widely used certifications used in Europe to prove compliance with the compostability norm EN 13432 are the 'Seedling', the 'DIN Geprüft', and the 'OK compost' labels below. The idea behind the full package is that any compostable packaging brands that have a certificate of compliance with at least one of the following standards: EN 13432, EN 14995 or ASTM D6400 can use it. The certificate must have been issued by an independent certification body, however, so if unsure, please dispose of in general waste. Familiarise yourself with the list of required certification standards for acceptance of other packaging.
Q: What cannot be put into the bin?
A: Only compostable packaging is acceptable, no bottles, cans, or plastic bags. Any contamination will be recorded and reported to each client individually. Containers should be checked before going into the bin to ensure they do not contain any contaminants. A little bit of food or liquid residue is ok.
Q: Can I put other items in the Compostable Packaging sacks?
A: Only compostable packaging with the above certifications.
Q: What day of the week will this waste stream be collected?
A: This service is available 7 days a week, on a schedule to suit you, and can be arranged on your First Mile customer portal or on 0333 300 3448.
Q: Can this waste be collected On Call?
A: Call First Mile any time on 0333 300 3448 for urgent collection issues - this line runs 24/7 and out of working hours will go straight through to the out-of-hours team.

Q: Do I have to pay for Front of House receptacles?
A: The initial Full Package Collection Bins from decent will be delivered free of charge if you are a custom branded customer; subsequent receptacles will be charged at £25 per bin, you can also purchase method recycling bins from First Mile here- https://thefirstmile.co.uk/product/method-bin-60l
Q: Do I have to use approved front of house receptacles?
A: We love to collaborate, so if you’ve got a cool idea and would like your own custom Front of House collection bin, please get in contact with your decent packaging Account Manager, or email hello@decentpackaging.co.uk and we can help you out.
Q: Will the Front of House receptacle require a liner?
A: Yes, it’s .99p per sack (25 sacks per roll, 89 x 74cm ) this covers the cost of your collections. You can login at portal.thefirstmile.co.uk to place orders, check your schedule, documents, invoices, or report a problem. Or email anytime customers@thefirstmile.co.uk. Q: Do I have to pay for delivery of the Wheelie Bin to the site?
A: if you require a larger volume to be collected, First Mile will provide a 1100ltr (dimensions H139 x W125 x D105cm which holds 15 Sacks) wheelie bin at no upfront cost, and collect for £9.24 per lift on a schedule to suit you.
Q: Will the Wheelie Bin require a liner?
A: No, however if you would like any of your bins washed, please contact First Mile at customers@thefirstmile.co.uk and they can assist with pricing.
